If you've already created a Shakespearean Garden or in the process of making it, please share some photos with us. The more we can share, the greater the inspiration for our readers!
My name is Ed Cornely, and I live in Sturbridge, Mass. I discovered Shakespeare in high school, and was intimidated to memorize passages as we studied the four tragedies, but really discovered what Shakespeare was all about in college.
I became an English teacher and eventually founded my own live stage theater, Stageloft Repertory Theater in Sturbridge, Mass., 20 years ago. I designed the theater to resemble the Globe Theater, and did at least one Shakespeare play a year (knowing I was going to lose money).
I inherited my love of gardening from my mom. I discovered Shakespeare Gardens when visiting Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, and I’ve had my own Shakespearean garden for 25 years.
I passionately want to spread the love of Shakespeare and his gardens. I want to communicate with you, coach you, learn from you, collaborate, provide you with the quotations from the plays, and help you design and plant your own Shakespearean garden.
What do I ask in return? Be honest, share ideas, don’t be afraid to say ”no”, and don’t hold back with questions or opinions. That’s it. No payment required.
Oh, I forgot ... maybe some pictures of your garden. If I can get to your home, I’d love to help you plant the garden, but cannot promise that can happen. You may live in fair Verona, in sight of Elsinor Castle, in ancient Athens, in the U.S. Midwest or on a goat farm in upstate New York. It doesn’t matter. I want to help, and I hope you will let me.
